Location benefits
Excellent transport links, short distances to other research locations and the city center, energy-efficient buildings, an urban environment with child daycare facilities, schools, shops and green areas – Bahnstadt offers ideal conditions for science-based companies and scientific institutes.
Heidelberg’s newest district is located near to the central station and just a few minutes by car, bicycle or public transport from other science centers in Neuenheimer Feld, the old town and at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL). A new route extension will in future link Bahnstadt with two lines to the Heidelberg tram network.
The A5, A6 and A656 highways can also be reached in a matter of minutes, Frankfurt International Airport in just 45 minutes and Stuttgart Airport in around 70 minutes.
Bahnstadt is the world’s largest passive house settlement. All buildings are constructed to passive house standards and consequently boast exceptionally high energy efficiency. A wood-powered cogeneration plant produces enough electricity and heat to make Bahnstadt a zero-emission district.
Knowledge-intensive and research-oriented companies have access to suitably-sized commercial premises. Researchers value the urban environment and a lunchtime walk from the laboratory to a neighborhood café. A school, several daycare centers and numerous shops and stores ensure excellent living standards for the district’s 6,800 future residents.
Cultural facilities like Halle 02 and the greenery of Zollhofgarten promote a sense of enjoyment and relaxation. For children there are several creatively designed playgrounds.
